Edinburgh was once termed ‘the Athens of the North’ as it combined stunning architectural gems, and an undulating landscape, and was home to some of the world’s greatest philosophers.
Today, the city is a vibrant mix of the old and the new, with historic buildings from different periods having a range of maintenance and restoration needs. As well as prominent commercial and public buildings, the city also has many period domestic properties.
We were recently contacted by homeowners in Edinburgh to fit 6 windows in a period property in the heart of the city. Because of its location, reducing traffic noise was a key concern for the homeowners. They also wanted to improve the insulation of the windows, helping to protect against the extremes of the Scottish climate.
The homeowner opted for our services after having Storm recommended to them by a Conservation Officer. Beautiful deep bay windows were fitted with 3 curved in-plan lower vertical sliding sash units. These really complement the design of the windows, helping to create a warm, draught-free environment with significant noise reduction. As well as the feature bay window, we also fitted 2 slimline units, and a single vertical sliding sash, on what was a rewarding job. The surveying and installation were carried out by Warwick Bellarby and Jack Sulley.
With such a rich variety of heritage properties in the city, we’re sure to be heading north again before too long.
