We have recently won a contract to install secondary glazing to the National Trust Lindisfarne Castle.
We will be surveying the job next week and have been contracted to install 12 units. The project will be one of our most prestigious assignments yet. Storm was chosen due to our excellent track record and vast experience in working with listed properties, as well as the success of our various other National Trust projects.
Lindisfarne Castle was built in the 16th century and is found on the Holy Island in Northumberland. The castle is on the highest point of the Holy Island and was designed to prevent a potential Scottish invasion during a period in history when relations between England and Scotland were extremely volatile. After the relationship between the two countries thawed, the castle became a tourist attraction. The castle has been closed for renovation and restoration since late 2016 and is set to reopen in April. It has also featured in several films and TV series, such as The Scarlet Pimpernel and Cold Feet.
Unfortunately, due to the ‘Beast from the East’ earlier this year, we experienced some delays, but we’re pleased to say that we’re now back on track and raring to go. Our surveyor, Oliver Parkes, did the manufacturing survey a few weeks ago and now we’re just waiting for approval on the frame colour of the windows from the architect.
We’ve also been working closely with the construction company DATIM Building Contractors so that everything can be co-ordinated effectively with the construction schedule.
We will be fitting around 18 windows for the castle and it’s without doubt, one of our most challenging and prestigious assignments to date. We will be finalising the production date of the windows very shortly and then confirming a fitting date.
It will be a sight to behold once they’re finally in place!
