It’s such a shame when a beautiful old building reaches the end of its original use – but we love nothing more than helping to give it a new lease of life.
Windmills, textile mills and watermills are some of the most interesting examples of British architecture but rendered obsolete in modern times many have crumbled to pieces.
Which is why we were more than happy to help in the renovations of this former mill which had been turned into a duplex apartment.
You might recognize it from our promotional video below in which Mr. B generously shared his home with our camera crew.
The building is in a conservation area so there were strict rules and regulations about changes that could be made to the property.
Key period features like exposed brickwork and beams had been retained, but the real highlights for us were the arched windows, four on the ground floor, two in the kitchen and two in the lounge.
Mr. B didn’t think they could be secondary glazed, but our design team, who love a challenge, thought differently.
The original metal windows were kept, and we added our sleek black framed secondary glazing which worked well with the interior of the apartment – we used RAL 7016 which is a really popular colour for clients who are looking for a more industrial look.
The apartments are now warm, cosy and comfortable. . . and the old mill will be in use for many years to come.
