Here at Storm Windows we understand the obstacles presented in a period home and have a wealth of experience in ensuring our energy-saving solutions fit perfectly and your home stays snug and cosy during the colder months.
We specialise in making and installing bespoke secondary glazing for listed, classic and historic properties nationwide. Whatever the shape of your windows, we can help. We provide a custom-made glazing system which allows an internal single-glazed unit to be installed behind your primary window.
Our system is mainly magnetic, making it easy to operate and remove for cleaning and maintenance. We also reduce a need for visible fixings, to help your home remain aesthetically-pleasing and authentic. Listed and classic properties are prone to heat loss, with primary windows letting out the warmth.
Our unique secondary glazing is virtually invisible – our work doesn’t contravene listed restrictions. Meanwhile our magnetic system helps create a thermal break which keeps you warm, preventing cold transferring from the primary glazing. Designed for older properties, our glazing complements the primary window, where appearance plays an important role and authenticity is essential and our expertise, and the continual development of our products, ensures that all of our glazing works seamlessly with the fabric of the original building.
Recently we were put to the test with a gorgeous property dating back in parts to Tudor times and most of the stunning home built in the 1700s.
This 7 bedroom country house in Chippenham, was showing signs of structural decay and damp. A complete refurbishment was undertaken after it changed hands in 2013. The owners were concerned about what could be done to help windows become more energy efficient as they were of all shapes and sizes.
They found us through an online search and soon had peace of mind that our specialism in period and historic homes would be suitable for their needs, which included maintaining the stunning look and feel of accompanying shutters.
Making sure the shutters could still close was one of our main objectives as secondary glazing was fitted across the property. Thanks to our magnetic system, access to the primary windows was easy.
As you can see from these ‘after’ pictures, we were thrilled with the end result.
The delighted owner said: “We always had a beautiful house, now we have one that is warm with no draughts. The slimline frame means the glazing is unobtrusive and the fact that the frames are made to the actual shape and size of each window means that they have not spoilt the look of the rooms at all, indeed you don’t notice them.”
We take great pride in such wonderful feedback from our clients and would welcome the opportunity to show you our expertise, skill and craftsmanship.
