It wasn’t the real thing, obviously, but the competition between the Royal Oak Golf Society and Hollybush was as hard fought as the actual cup!
We became involved through our surveyor, Andy Bennett, who is also secretary and event organiser at ROGS.
The society is based in Halesowen, at the Royal Oak pub, and meets every month at a different course around the Midlands, to take on a range of teams. They also take part in various memorial, charity and invitational tournaments too.
Starting from a group of just eight, it has grown under Andy’s organisation, to 44 members, 28 of whom played in the ‘Ryder Cup’ event at Astbury Hall in Shropshire on July 23.
It was a beautiful sunny day, made all the sweeter by ROGS’ victory of 16 ½ – 11 ½, helping them to retain the cup.
