We know that historic buildings bring unique challenges when it comes to restoration or renovation. One such issue has always been how to install secondary glazing for curved windows with casement style openings.
Our experts have pondered this very issue and are excited to announce we’ve now pioneered a solution that has potential wide-scale use in period and listed properties. It’s straightforward and unobtrusive so we predict it will become very popular indeed.
It’s fair to say our Technical Manager Mitchell Reece was the driving force behind our invention but the whole of our Manufacturing Team also had a say and input into the final result, with everyone’s knowledge playing a vital part.
For us, development is all about trial and error, testing the limits of our materials to see the bends our section can manage before they become fractured. Our company’s engineering heritage speaks volumes – we can be hands-on as well as applying technical expertise.
Our new curved in plan horizontal sliding units are ideal for curved windows with casement style openings where regular ventilation is needed.
We are installing our first units at the Pick Building in Leicester – a former knitwear factory which has a new lease of life as luxury apartments. It has taken us under six months to design and manufacture our new units. Now that a prototype has been tested, approved and used, production can be much quicker and simpler.
Our invention makes us the only UK secondary glazing company that can provide this solution. It can be used on curved windows with minimum impact on the primary windows while keeping full functionality.
This new style of secondary glazing can be made to suit the exact needs of curved primary windows, and is easily removable to allow effective cleaning and maintenance.
Our design is most definitely unique and we can’t wait for it to be used more and more. We are very pleased to say it also remains true to Storm Windows style, as it’s very slimline.
Into the future, our new units will be suitable where other types can’t be used due to listed constraints which require the secondary glazing to be unobtrusive both internally and externally and where a curve has to be managed. Ventilation is still achievable even with a curved in plan casement style primary window, making this unit an ideal solution where aesthetics and functionality go hand in hand.
