We pride ourselves on being honest, and that’s why, unlike some other providers, we won’t tell you that secondary glazing alone can stop condensation. Here are the 5 key steps to reducing condensation in your home:

Our glazing is a fully removable system and does not cause any damage to the historic fabric of the building. However, if your property is a listed building, building of historical interest or in a conservation area, we strongly recommend you speak with your Conservation Officers before you commit to purchasing our secondary glazing system. Many Conservation Officers are familiar with our product and are happy to let the installation proceed but there are some that will insist on LBC
Although we are unable to assist in the actual LBC application, we can provide our generic cross section drawings to assist the Conservation Officers requirements.
Please note many alterations to a listed property require Listed Building Consent and it is a criminal offence to carry out alterations without it.
The best time to install secondary glazing is in late spring or summer. The reason for this is that your windows will have been free of condensation for some time, and the frames will be dry. By installing your secondary glazing in optimal conditions, the risk of condensation developing between the glass panes is dramatically reduced.
Your window frames should be clean, dry and free from defects. We’ll let you know when we carry out your free survey if any remedial work or additional actions are required before installation.
We offer a 5-year guarantee on our products and installation. Please note, this does not cover breakages or the misuse of our products.
Although draught-proofing reduces air currents, it’s unlikely to make significant improvements to insulation or make much impact on outside noise. Good quality secondary glazing does both. If your property is very draughty, you may wish to consider both options.
All our secondary glazing units are designed to be fully removable and easy to clean. If your windows are large or in hard-to-reach places, we always recommend using our expert cleaning and maintenance service.
Providing secondary glazing is installed on dry, well-maintained window frames which are completely free from mould and condensation, it can make a significant improvement in these areas. However, to prevent mould and condensation from returning, your property should always be adequately heated and ventilated. Download our leaflet Condensation - Its Causes and Solutions for more details.
It’s unlikely that you’ll need planning permission as our secondary glazing won’t alter the outward appearance of your property, and it’s fully removable. Conservation officers often recommend our secondary glazing. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss your options in more detail.
Although acrylic secondary glazing is lightweight and comparatively cheap to install, glass secondary glazing performs significantly better. Glass offers better insulation and noise reduction. It’s crystal-clear, ensuring the look and feel of your property is not impacted, and it’s also easier to clean and is much longer-lasting.
At Storm, your secondary glazing solution is made-to-measure and manufactured in-house. This means that lead times may vary depending on seasonal demand. For residential projects not involving any specialised shapes or sizes, you can expect a lead time of between 8 and 16 weeks. For larger projects and bespoke shapes such as circular windows and arches, lead times may be significantly longer. Please contact us for more details.
